Had the urge to just write some straight up Emma and Graham fluff. The fic was inspired by the song “Question” by Rhett Miller.
Pairing: Emma x Graham
Rating: PG / Fluff / Short Story
Title: ”Question”
Graham’s got a question for Emma.
Set Up: This takes place after Emma breaks the curse, Graham/The Huntsman turns out to be alive in fairytale land, and now they’ve been going out for awhile. Since we don’t know the Huntsman name yet he’s referred to as Graham and his personality is more of Graham’s as well.
Now on to the story!

“Time to get up sleeping beauty.” Emma groaned as she rolled over in bed and turned to the person speaking. Graham stood there leaning up against the door frame of her room with a smirk on his face. She took one of the pillows and chucked it at him, he dodged it with complete ease however. Taking the other pillow she covered her head with it. “It’s to early!” her complaint was slightly muffled by the pillow.
“It’s 9 o’clock.” He informed her as he tried to wrangle the pillow from her. “Which is still to early! Until you guys can invent a decent substitute for coffee I’m gonna stick with waking up at eleven.” Graham had managed to get the pillow away from her and got her to sit up in bed at least. Emma was not a morning person by any means and without caffeine she was even less of one.
Now sitting at the edge of the bed she let out a loud yawn and Graham pulled her to her feet. “Do we really have to do this today?” She whinied, sleeping was the only thing that sounded good to her at the moment. “Come on.” He said trying to encourage her along “It has to be today. Now go on get dressed.” Rubbing her eyes she started to move towards the closet. “Fine fine.” She muttered as she slowly shuffled about.
Graham nodded pleased with the development. “Good. I’ll step outside while you change.” Emma gave a teasing smile “Well aren’t you a gentleman.” He returned the smile “I’m no prince but I try.” Then he proceeded to go outside in the hallway, shutting the door behind him.
A good few minutes passed by until something dawned on him. He rolled his eyes then opened the door. “I knew it!” He yelled. Emma was already back in bed and under the covers trying to get some more sleep. She’d been caught. “And I was having such a good dream too! I dreamt that my boyfriend let me sleep another 2 hours!” Graham simply stood there staring her down. She let out a sigh, ”Alright, alright I will actually get changed this time.” The young woman headed back over to her closet and he headed back to wait outside the door.
It wasn’t long this time before the door opened behind him. Emma was wearing a simple dress with a pair of boots. Since returning to fairytale land besides the outfit she had been wearing at the time, her wardrobe was forced to do a 180 as jeans we’re not something they had here. Graham smiled at the sight of her “You look nice.” He said quietly. Emma had a knack for looking good in almost anything she wore even when she wasn’t trying. “Thanks.” She told him casually, hiding a tiny smile as they walked down the corridor.
“So are you going to tell me where we’re going or what?” All she knew is that Graham had this thing planned for a few days now, actually he had it planned for awhile now she just didn’t know it. He gave her a sly smile in response “You’ll just have to wait in see.”
The two had now left the castle and we’re headed towards the Enchanted Forest. Emma had actually grown quite fond of the place, she wasn’t exactly a nature girl but Graham had shown her the forest quite a bit. These woods were his world and she liked being part of that.
“Here.” Graham said reaching into the pouch he was wearing the Emma had failed to notice earlier. He brought out something that instantly improved her mood. “You brought me a bear claw!” Food was one of the quickest ways to perk Emma up when she was in one of her grumpy morning slumps. Not to mention she was a complete sucker for a bear claw. “I asked Granny if she wouldn’t mind whipping one up.” Graham handed it to her and she rather quickly started munching on it. “Thanks” She said covering her mouth a bit, he couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight.
They’d been walking for quite some time now. “Almost there.” he informed her. She’d never been this far into the woods before. Suddenly Graham stopped. There was a large amount of brush in front of them. “Alright this is it. Come on.” He grabbed her hand and pushed the brush aside and they walked through. “Woah.” Emma was completely awestruck. Infront of her was a huge field of flowers, but by no means we’re they normal flowers. These flowers let off the most beautiful golden glow. She’d never seen anything like it before.
“These flowers only bloom one day a year for a couple hours. The rest of the year they’re in a dormant state.” Graham explained to her. She heard what he had said but was so captivated by the sight that she didn’t have a response. He took that as a good sign. Leave it to fairytale land to have something as beautiful as this occur.
“Was it worth getting up so extremely early for?” Emma chuckled at his emphasis on the word ’extremely’. “If I say yes will you let me sleep in tomorrow?” She joked. “But really this is amazing, thank you.” As tired as she had been she was glad he literally dragged her out of bed to come see it. It was a sight she wouldn’t forget.
They stood there for awhile just watching the event. But every once in awhile though Emma would catch Graham nervously fiddling with something in his pocket. She didn’t think much of it and instead asked ”How much longer will they last for?” He glanced up at the sun and tried to figure out the time based on it’s position. “I’d say about 10 minutes.” She nodded. “We should probably get going then. I kinda wanna remember it just like this.” Always like Emma to leave while something was still good.
She started to head back in the direction they came when Graham spoke up “Um… Do you mind if I ask you something first?” He looked kind of nervous all of a sudden which confused her a bit. “Uh, sure.” Graham took a deep breath then did something that caught Emma completely off guard. He got down on one knee.
Mentally, Emma started freaking out some. He couldn’t possible be doing what she thought he was, right? Surely he was just bending down to pick up something he dropped at the most awkward of moments. There was no way he was proposing to her. But he was.
“Emma… For 28 years I lived my life unable to feel anything. Then one day I met you and for the first time in 28 years I actually felt something, you made me feel like I had a heart again. The way I feel about you, I never knew I could ever feel this way about someone. Emma I love you, will you marry me?”
His speech left her feeling overwhelmed, but somehow in the best way possible. She was still trying to get used to a guy telling her he loved her and actually meaning it. Usually guys just told her that to get her in the sack, she never believed a word of what they said though. But with Graham she knew he truely ment it.
“Are you sure you know what your getting into?” Only Emma Swan would respond to a proposal by asking a guy he if knew what he was getting into. “I mean I gotta kid and a lifetime’s worth of emotional baggage.” She was a mess why would he possibly want to commit to something like that. “Emma,” He said grabbing her hand “No matter how many excuses you give me I’m still going to want to marry you.”
He had to be crazy she thought, a total idiot. But deep down she really loved that idiot. “Alright. Then yes, I’ll marry you.” He had the biggest smile on his face as he slid the ring onto her finger. The ring was fairly simple, some might even call it plain but Emma didn’t care, she loved it. Graham stood up and she threw her arms around his neck, and he pulled her in for a kiss.
“Ready to head back?” He asked after there kiss. Emma nodded. Graham put his arm around her shoulder and she leaned into him some. “Oh by the way, I’m really glad you didn’t decide to put that ring in my bear claw. Accidentally choking on jewelry really sucks the fun out of a proposal.” Graham let out a laugh “That’s to corny even for me.”
